April 17th, New Zealand Day 2

These are the many photos I took on my 2nd day in New Zealand, the first day of the tour.

This is Christ Church Cathedral which gave Cathedral Sqaure its name. I'm not sure if the Cathedral is named for the town, or the town for the Cathedral.

This is a cross, which serves as a war memorial, stands beside Christ Church Cathedral.

This is a statue of the founder of Christchurch, and Canterbury more generally, in front of Christ Church Cathedral.

This is a building on Cathedral Square and I'm not sure of its purpose although it does have a Starbucks on the bottom level.

This is another building on Cathedral Square, but I don't know what it's used for.

These are the tracks of a streetcar system that runs through the center of Christchurch and is really only for tourists as it is somewhat expensive.

This is the first of 5 photos of Cathedral Square in Christchurch which I took just before the tour left. This was at about 07:30.

This is the world's largest sweater, known locally as the Giant Jersey, in the town of Geraldine.

The clouds hiding the peaks of these mounts created an interesting effect. We were quite high and the clouds seemed quite low.

After clearing the clouds over the Canterbury Plain, we were treated to a wonderful view of the Southern Alps. This is the first of 8 photos which show the Southern Alps rising on the horizon.
